(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A man is charged with choking a Chicago police officer this week in Lawndale on the West Side.
Police had responded to a call of a group who was brandishing firearms while filming a music video in the 3600 block of West 15th Street Wednesday night, according to Chicago police.
Chicago police spokesman Tom Ahern says officers spotted 33-year-old Michael Reed, a convicted felon, with two guns and started to arrest him on weapons charges.
A second man attacked the arresting officer, placing him in a chokehold, in an attempt to free Reed, he said. The alleged attacker is identified as 20-year-old Donta Reed and is charged with aggravated battery to a police officer and resisting a police officer.
The officer, who reportedly lost consciousness during the attack, was recovering, according to police.
Two guns were recovered at the scene, police said.
