(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — An investigation is underway after an inmate was found dead at the Lake County Jail Tuesday.
A 53-year-old man from Zion was taken to Lake County Jail on Monday for a drug charge.
The Lake County Sheriff's office, who did not release his name, said he had several health problems and was given medication at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and checked on every 30 minutes.
Just after 9:30, he was found unresponsive in his cell.
The Lake County Sheriff's Office reports that despite efforts by medical staff and paramedics, he was pronounced dead.
Officials say the man previously reported having terminal underlying health conditions.
The Lake County Coroner's Office will perform an autopsy.
