Security guard fatally pushed down stairs while trying to break up fight in River North

A man who tried to intervene in a fight in Chicago’s River North neighborhood was fatally pushed down a flight of stairs, police said.

CHICAGO (WBBM Newsradio) – A man who tried to intervene in a fight in Chicago’s River North neighborhood was fatally pushed down a flight of stairs, police said.

The incident happened around 1:20 Monday morning inside Hubbard Inn in the 100 block of West Hubbard Street.

Authorities said a 35-year-old security guard attempted to break up a confrontation between another man and a group of people when he was pushed down the stairs.

The man was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A 32-year-old man was arrested at the scene, and charges are pending.

Area Three detectives continue to investigate.
