Indiana State Police are investigating an incident in Valparaiso Thursday afternoon during which police shot and killed a 20-year-old man.
Valparaiso Police were called to Fairgrounds Park for a report of a suspicious person displaying a handgun. Once Valparaiso Police and Porter County deputies responded, they found a man who matched the description of the suspect. The suspect fled toward Calumet Avenue as officers approached, and a foot pursuit followed.
A statement from State Police says an "exchange of gunfire took place between the suspect and the officers."
The man identified as Caden Mura of Valparaiso was shot and was taken to Northwest Health Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
