Man fatally shot in South Shore

The man, 44, was near a sidewalk Tuesday afternoon when three people approached him and one of them fired shots, police said.

A man was shot to death Tuesday afternoon in the South Shore neighborhood.

The 44-year-old was near a sidewalk about 1 p.m. in the 2500 block of East 79th Street when three people approached him and at least one of them opened fire, Chicago police said.

He suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his body and was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

No one is in custody and area detectives are investigating.
