(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A Port Barrington man faces federal charges of conspiracy for helping CDL exam takers cheat on the test.

Mykola Datkun, 33, is accused of helping individuals cheat on the written Illinois commercial driver's license or CDL exam by using an earpiece to feed applicants answers. The alleged scheme involved him telling test takers to request taking an audio version of the CDL exam at an Illinois Secretary of State facility.

Beforehand, Datkun would mic-up the person and give them a cell phone number to call when they got to the audio exam. They'd make the call and Datkun would hear the questions and give answers in real-time.

The Chicago Tribune reports that the cheating allegedly took place at multiple Illinois Secretary of State facilities, including one in Elk Grove Village.

Federal prosecutors have released court documents saying Datkun ran the operation out of his Island Lake trucking firm Maximum Service Inc.--from 2019 to 2022 and charged applicants $500 for the assistance.
