OAK LAWN (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Someone refused to be a victim in Oak Lawn Wednesday afternoon and fired multiple shots at two men who were trying to steal his car.

It was about 3:30 P.M. when, police said, in a press release, “two male black offenders armed with handguns attempted to carjack an unsuspecting victim in the 6500 block of West 89th Place.”

The owner of the car pulled his gun, and, police said, he fired about 8 shots at them. They sped away in a Jeep Cherokee.

It’s unclear whether either was shot.

Police found the Jeep abandoned a few blocks away, near 90th and Melvina. There, the two got into an older white Dodge Charger driven by a third person and left the area before police arrived.

They’re asking residents in the area to check security cameras to see if there are useful images. They got at least one, showing damage on the rear passenger-side door of the Charger.

Police said the men should be considered “armed and dangerous.”
