Wrong-way crash on DuSable Lake Shore Drive leaves man seriously injured: Police

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A portion of DuSable Lake Shore Drive was shut down for over an hour following a wrong-way crash.

According to Chicago Police, a Mazda 6, traveling north in the outbound lanes near Randolph, struck a Chevy head-on. The accident occurred at about 4:20 a.m.

The wrong-way driver then exited his vehicle and fled on foot, police said.

The driver of the Chevy, a 26-year-old man, suffered broken bones and abrasions and was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious condition.

No other injuries were reported.

A portion of outbound DuSable Lake Shore Drive was completely closed for nearly 90 minutes as police began investigating and crews cleared the scene.

No arrests have been made. Detectives will continue the investigation.
