(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A man, who had been held in custody in connection with a shooting that killed a Chicago woman, has been released.

The shooting happened early in the morning last week in the Portage Park neighborhood.

Court documents say 42-year-old Robert Pasco was sleeping with a gun under his pillow when his pregnant girlfriend, 35-year-old Edith Castrejon, reached over and grabbed it.

Pasco woke up and shot Castrajone in the chest, according to authorities. She was taken to the hospital where she later died.

Prosecutors said the woman's three small children were asleep in the same room.

Pasco reportedly put the 9 millimeter ghost gun in the closet before police came.

He was released without any murder charges, but faces charges of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.

The Cook County State's Attorney's office said Pasco is a convicted felon with multiple past weapons convictions.
