ROSEMONT (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - First responders in northwest suburban Rosemont received a thank you for helping save a man's life.
Sergeant Joe Balogh with the Rosemont Public Safety Department told us Rosemont first responders helped save a 51-year-old man who had a medical emergency in the parking garage near the AMC Theatre in July
“Our EMS, our fire department responded, along with the police, to the parking garage, and actually a civilian was already doing CPR when we arrived…It’s always a nice thing to see,” Balogh said.
The man, who suffered cardiac arrest and had no pulse, was given chest compressions, and other measures were taken. He was rushed to the hospital and survived.
Now, this week, the man came back to say thank you.
“He had a little gift basket for them, appreciation of what they were doing…It’s nice to see people come back and tell us their story, explain what happened, that they’re doing successful now and healthy and everything’s good,” said Balogh.
He said the whole incident is a reminder that everyone should know CPR.
"Part of the reason of our success with this is that it all did start with a civilian performing CPR. We took over and obviously we transferred care then to the hospital. It's all a big system and everyone helping together. The more people out there who are trained, the better it is," Balogh said.
