(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – An Orland Park man is wanted by Lake County authorities after he allegedly fled the scene of a sting operation targeting online predators.

For weeks, Connor N. Smith, 32, was communicating via the Internet with someone he thought was an underaged girl, the Lake County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release. The “girl” was actually a detective who set up a supposed sexual encounter with the adult, officials said.

But when police tried to arrest Smith on Feb. 9, he was able to escape and fled. Now, authorities are asking the public’s help in locating him.

Smith faces felony charges of traveling to meet a minor; grooming; and disseminating harmful material. Smith allegedly sent sexually explicit images and videos to the person he thought was a minor.

A Lake County Judge has set bond on Smith’s arrest warrant at $1 million.
