Police had arrested Jordan on a carjacking charge in July 2020 but failed to discover that he was armed with a small handgun. An official said the parolee hid a gun in his pants, near his private parts, and opened fire when an officer opened a rear door at the station.

The officer was shot in the chin, with bullet fragments going into into his esophagus. Two other officers also were wounded.

Jordan was shot multiple times and is now paralyzed.
