(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Murder charges have been filed against a 24-year-old Shorewood man who, authorities say, had a connection to a man accused in a mass shooting in Joliet in January.

Jon Hansen, according to the Will County Sheriff's Office, shot two men, killing one, the day before his acquaintance Romeo Nance allegedly shot and killed seven members of his own family before shooting himself to death while on the run in Texas.

Hansen allegedly shot and killed Toyosi Bakare at the Pheasant Run Apartments and wounded another man at a residence on Davis Street in Joliet on January 21. Nance was with Hansen at the time, according to police.

The next day, Nance allegedly shot and killed his family members, including his mother, sisters and brother. The shootings took place at two Joliet homes on West Acres Road between Springfield Avenue and Madison Street.

Police say the same weapon Nance used to kill himself was also used in the murder of Bakare. The weapon was a 9mm glock ghost gun. Nance's car was also seen at the different shooting scenes on both days.

Hansen is not charged in connection with the murders of Nance's family. He is facing murder and aggravated battery charges.
