(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Plans have been announced for a long-anticipated marina at Navy Pier.
An agreement has been approved between the city's Department of Transportation and developers, although the project will need approvals from the US Army Corps of Engineers and other agencies, according to a news release.
Still, if all goes well, the marina will offer about 6,400 lineal feet of side-tie mooring for vessels up to 130 feet in length, with a mix of fixed and floating piers along Navy Pier's north side.
"Navy Pier is one of the most visited tourist attractions in the central United States, but the lack of a functioning Marina has prevented waterborne tourists from accessing and enjoying what it has to offer," Randy D. Podolsky, developer and manager of Navy Pier Marina (NPM), said in the news release.
An opening is anticipated in 2025. NPM intends said it will offer limited space for fishing, sailing and diving charters.
