CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Journalists who are covering the war in Ukraine were honored at a Chicago church on Sunday.
Father Manuel Dorantes of St. Mary of the Lake and Our Lady of Lourdes Parish on Sheridan Road said journalists uncover the truth.
"These men and women have died trying to open a window so that the rest of the world can see what is going on," the priest expressed.
Dorantes also spoke directly to members of Chicago media.
"I want to encourage you to go deeper and to never lose that inspiration to seek the truth in all the stories that you do. You might not be in Ukraine in the front lines but you are on the front lines of our city. And the city and society depends on you and your hard work to keep us accountable to the truth."
Dorantes also said the pandemic has taught us a lot about seeking the truth.
"We have learned that we truly are brothers and sisters and what happens in Ukraine effects us here and everywhere in the world."
Names of journalists killed in previous wars were read, as they were remembered along with those journalists in this most current war.
