(WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A weekend brush fire destroyed nearly 80 acres of land in far northwest suburban Johnsburg, the McHenry Township Fire Protection District said.
Crews responded to a home on Buchanan Road near Richmond Road on Saturday, at about 11:40 a.m., to a call of a cornfield fire, spanning about an acre. According to fire officials the windy and dry conditions resulted in the fire spreading quickly to the surrounding open land and the responding firefighters were forced to call in help from other departments.
Over a dozen other departments assisted in putting out the fire, using specialized trucks and experts. It took nearly three hours for crews to control the fire, the Daily Herald reported.
Ultimately, on one was injured and no buildings were damaged, the McHenry Township Fire Protection District said.
