Mayor Brandon Johnson wants to use the city’s purchase power to stop gun violence.
He signed an executive order Wednesday morning to target dealers who violate gun regulations, saying it puts irresponsible actors on notice.

A report from the non-profit says more than $5B a year go to equip law enforcement agencies with guns and ammunition - and millions have been spent with dealers cited for violating the law.
Brown was in Chicago to applaud the mayor’s move that follows other municipalities in trying to leverage buying power for greater safety.
The executive order directs Procurement Services to work with the Chicago Police Department to develop standards within 90 days for gun buys.
Those would include that dealers selling to the city must share compliance records to see if their products have been used in straw purchases and trafficking.
