The McHenry County Board has decided to give pay raises to 75 percent of its non-union workforce.

The county board approved the pay increases, which will go into effect in 2023, at the June McHenry County Board meeting.

The pay increases for 430 of the 580 non-union workers are expected to cost McHenry County an extra $2 million per year.

About 300 workers will get pay increases based on the years they’ve been on the job.

There had been some concern by one county board member that lower-level workers might resent the fact that their pay raises were at lower percentages than upper-level workers.

County administrator Peter Austin, though, said it has also been hard filling upper-level jobs.

The vote came just after a South Carolina consulting firm recommended the increases, according to the Daily Herald.
