MCHENRY (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A local author's new children's book aims to entertain young readers while sharing a few lessons.
McHenry resident Sheryl Bass' new rhyming children's picture book is "Baby Dragon's Big Sneeze.”
“When he sneezes, he actually burns down a village,” Bass revealed.
And, that leads to a lot of trouble before a little girl saves the day.
“This story has several different messages in there about not making assumptions about others and giving others the benefit of the doubt, messages about sharing of resources, teamwork,” said Bass.
Bass said children's books are more popular than ever.
“One of the problems with that though is that a lot of celebrities are getting in on the act, writing picture books. And, it makes it harder for people who are not known, like myself, to get in, in publishing,” Bass said.
But, this publishing story and the dragon's story both have happy endings.
“Yes, they all live happily ever after,” Bass said.
