(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — It was three years ago, Aug. 7, 2021, that Chicago Police Officer Ella French was shot and killed during a traffic stop in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side.

On Wednesday, a memorial roll call was held in honor of French at the Chicago Police Memorial Wall near Soldier Field.

Mayor Brandon Johnson was among the speakers.

“Officer French was an exemplary model of a Chicago police officer. She was a hard worker, truly an exemplary model of what it means to be dedicated, to protect our streets and to serve our people,” he said.

“The biggest lesson that we can take with us here today is number one, no one is guaranteed tomorrow, make the most of you can today,” Chicago Police Chaplain Rabbi Moshe Wolf said.

Officer French is one of 601 names of fallen Chicago Police Officers on the Memorial Wall.

Officer French's partner, Carloz Yanez, was shot and wounded in the 2021 incident.
