CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — As Chicagoans make their New Year’s Eve plans, Metra has announced free rides for those coming to and from the city to ring in 2023.

This will be the fourth year in a row that Metra has offered free travel after 6 p.m. on New Year’s Eve.

All rides arriving to or departing from Metra’s downtown stations will be free, with the last outbound train leaving about 1 a.m.

“If a free ride encourages people to celebrate safely, my Metra is there for them,” Metra CEO and Executive Director Jim Derwinski said.

Free rides will also be available on Chicago Transit Authority trains and buses from 10 p.m. on New Year’s Eve until 4 a.m.
