VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A man from Van Buren County in Southwestern Michigan needed medical attention early Tuesday. He couldn’t reach 911, so he took a unique approach to get the attention of police.

It was about 1:45 a.m. when multiple people called 911 reporting that they were hearing gunshots and a man screaming from a nearby home.

Police from three local agencies arrived and set up a perimeter, according the Van Buren County sheriff’s office. They called for the homeowner to come out and he did immediately.

Sheriff Daniel Abbott said the 52-year-old man said he needed an ambulance. He tried repeatedly to call 911, but reception was bad.

“Out of frustration, he figured that if he started shooting his guns in the yard, it would cause a disturbance that would make the neighbors call 911," Abbott said.

The man got the ambulance. The sheriff's office said they removed multiple weapons. Four were lined up along the front of the house.

The man may be charged with reckless discharge of a firearm.
