MILWAUKEE (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A 10-year-old Milwaukee boy has been charged as an adult for shooting and killing his mother.
Police had initially believed the boy when he said he was twirling his mother's gun around his finger when it accidentally went off.
Then, family members raised concerns and told police the boy has "rage" issues and showed no remorse after the incident. Police said he then admitted he shot his mother after she refused to allow him to buy a virtual reality headset.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported family members told detectives he had a "concerning" mental health diagnosis and said he hears voices. His aunt said nobody in the family would babysit the boy.
The boy told police he took his mother's keys and took her gun from a gun safe because she woke him up early. He said he held the gun with two hands and was trying to scare her when he fired. Family learned that the next day he went on her computer and ordered the virtual reality headset.
He's charged with first-degree reckless homicide.
