(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A judge at the Dirksen Federal Courthouse in the Loop has declared a mistrial in the case of a former AT&T Illinois executive accused of bribing former Illinois House Speaker Mike Madigan.
The mistrial comes after jurors told the judge they could not reach a unanimous verdict in the case of Paul La Schiazza.
Lawyers will meet next week to discuss what happens next, but Madigan is set to be tried on corruption charges next month.
Madigan was accused of leading a “criminal enterprise” for nearly a decade, one that was designed to enhance his political power and generate income for his allies and associates.
His trial is expected to be the biggest public corruption trial at the Dirksen Federal Courthouse since the trials of former Gov. Rod Blagojevich.
