
Police in northwest suburban Des Plaines Police are investigating the death of a newborn.
Police say the mother of a 16-day-old boy told authorities she had been breastfeeding the baby on Saturday morning and that she fell asleep.
When she woke up a couple of hours later, about 8 a.m. or 8:30 a.m., her son was unresponsive, the mother told police. She called emergency services.
Des Plaines police say the baby was pronounced dead at a hospital.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office says the baby’s cause of death is pending further tests.
Police say no drugs or alcohol were involved.
