(NEWSRADIO) – Naperville police say they have arrested two more individuals for possessing illegal guns outside a popular sports facility where weapons have regularly been found.

Police say the latest incidents were unrelated and involved two convicted felons.

On Thursday evening, police on patrol at Topgolf on Odyssey Court say they detected the odor of cannabis coming from a vehicle. When officers asked 34-year-old Dijon Lane, the Blue Island man in the driver’s seat, to exit the vehicle, they saw a loaded handgun with eight rounds near the gas pedal, according to a news release.

On Saturday evening, police again were on routine patrol when they saw a loaded handgun in a parked vehicle, officials said. Police arrested 44-year-old Tavell Jackson of Maywood after he entered the vehicle. Jackson allegedly had 12.4 grams of crack cocaine on him, police said.

Each man was charged with armed habitual criminal and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, prosecutors said. Both were denied pretrial release.

“As convicted felons, both of these men have forfeited their right to legally possess a firearm. What I find particularly troubling are the allegations that both men brought a loaded firearm to a family friendly recreation facility,” DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said.

Naperville police have made similar gun-related arrests in the parking lot of Topgolf, but authorities have said they do not blame the business for the incidents.
