(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Suburban communities are continuing to see busses carrying migrants from Texas. Many have or will consider new laws discouraging the practice. One is taking a wait-and-see approach.
A bus carrying ten migrants pulled up to the Metra station in Lombard Thursday night. Some passengers had arrangements to be picked up. The rest boarded a train to Chicago.
Lombard is monitoring this situation and to date, there have been roughly two dozen busses that have dropped off migrants in DuPage County, according to a statement from the village.
The village not planning any further action relating to the regulation or permitting of bus arrivals at least for now, but that’s not the case in McHenry.
The issue focuses mainly on requiring a special permit to operate a bus within the villages and banning unscheduled bus stops and passenger drop offs.
McHenry City Council will meet Friday evening to consider new regulations that include a fine of $10,000 dollars and impoundment of busses that show up without prior warning.
Oaklawn, Broadview and Crystal Lake are also working on implementing these restrictions to prevent the arrival of buses without prior notice citing safety concerns.
"Maintaining the quality of life for all residents, businesses and visitors, along with having compassion for others, is a hallmark of our community," The City of Crystal Lake said in a statement. "The City will continue to promote these values as it navigates this on-going situation."
In Broadview, bus drivers and bus companies will now face criminal charges if they drop passengers off during severe weather.
