CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Advocate Aurora Health is offering free credit monitoring for more than 1,600 hospital patients from Illinois because of a computer software error.
The company said the error caused billing statements to be mailed out to one address — 1,661 statements in all — containing personal information.
But there’s no evidence the statements arrived and where they are is unclear, Advocate Aurora said, adding there’s also no evidence patient information had been intercepted or misused.
The statements were mailed at the end of July and Advocate Aurora recommended those impacted check financial accounts
As a precaution, the company said all patients involved have been offered free credit monitoring and it has upgraded the billing system.
Advocate Aurora operates hospitals and clinics in Illinois and Wisconsin.
