CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Customs agents at O’Hare have seized a shipment of more than 15,000 counterfeit Viagra pills.
The pills came from Turkey, according to the US Customs and Border Protection and were to be shipped to a residence in Michigan.
They were packaged to look like 100 milligram tablets of Viagra, but were fakes and could have been dangerous.
If they were real, and approved by the FDA, the retail value would have been $1,065,000, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said.
Shane Campbell, the Port Director, says in a statement, “Consumers do not realize the risk they are taking when using prescription drugs from other countries. These non-regulated drugs could cause health concerns or even death."
The seized pills have been turned over to the FDA’s Office of Criminal Investigation.
