CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The family of a Crystal Lake man seriously injured when an SUV crashed through his home is looking to the community for help.
A GoFundMe has raised over $60,000 dollars so far for Angelo Pleotis. His daughter in-law, Alyssa Pleotis, said that he will need much more and faces a "long road to recovery".
"Please help him and my family through this traumatic time," she wrote on the page. "I want to help give back to one of the kindest, most gentle-hearted people I've ever met."
The goal of the GoFundMe for Pleotis has been set at $250,000 dollars. When an SUV drove through his home last Wednesday, he was inside and soon after he was being airlifted to Condell Hospital in Libertyville with life threatening injuries.
Pleotis suffered collapsed lungs, broken, ribs, head trauma and two spinal fractures or dislocations-causing paralysis, according to his daughter-in-law.
In addition to having his home destroyed, he will be unable to attend his daughter's wedding next month or walk her down the aisle.
Raised funds will go toward rehab, doctors bills, home modifications, relocation, and specialty treatments among other things. Pleotis was last reported to still be in the ICU.
