THE LOOP (WBBM Newsradio) -- The former state office building that Google's making over into its new Chicago headquarters will have another big tenant when it re-opens.
Executives at the investment firm Morningstar say the company will move its global headquarters and the 1,500 people who work there to the James R. Thompson Center, 100 W. Randolph St. Currently, the company founded and now chaired by Chicago Fire FC owner Joe Mansueto has its global headquarters about two blocks south and east across Daley Plaza from the Thompson Center, in a building at 22 W. Washington St in Block 37.
Morningstar's announcement included word that the company intends to donate $5 million to Chicago non-profit organizations over the next five years. Most of that is a $4 million commitment to a fund to be managed by the United Way of Metro Chicago to benefit organizations dedicated to providing job training and financial literacy education to Chicagoans. That fund is expected to begin making grants next year.
Google has said it plans to finish its renovations at the Thompson Center in 2028. Morningstar says it expects to move into the Thompson Center in late 2028.
