(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – The driver of a stolen motorcycle was killed in a collision with a vehicle near Waukegan over the weekend, according to police who continue to investigate the crash.

Waukegan police officers responded around 6 p.m. Sunday to the area of 10th Street and Green Bay Road for a reported traffic accident with injuries, according to a news release issued Tuesday. Police found a 53-year-old Waukegan man in a 2008 Saturn, who provided information to authorities and was released.

The other motorist involved in the crash was a 20-year-old Waukegan man, who was found in a parking lot with significant internal injuries and a severed leg, officials said. The man was pronounced dead a short while later.

Pieces of the motorcycle he had been riding were found to the north of the collision site, police said.

Authorities determined the motorcycle was stolen. Investigators have reviewed video showing the vehicle traveling northbound at a “high rate of speed” when it struck the Saturn, which was turning onto 10th Street, police said.

The motorcycle continued northbound and struck a traffic signal, police said. They did not release the name of the deceased driver.

Waukegan police processed the scene, but it's not clear if the crash technically occurred in Waukegan or North Chicago, officials said.
