(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A man has been charged with assault after allegedly spitting in the face of an FBI outside the agency's headquarters in Chicago last month.

It was around 7 a.m. on Jan. 12 when the FBI said Jerome Bychowski was driving a white van and got stuck waiting behind FBI agents who were turning into the bureau's local offices on the West Side.

Bychowski honked and then got out of his van, according to affidavit filed with the federal complaint.

When an agent told him to get back in his van, Bychowski reportedly said, "If you're such a tough guy, get out of the car and show me."

Bychowski allegedly kept taunting the agent and finally spat on the agent's face through the agent's open car window.

When the agent told him he'd just committed a crime, Bychowski reportedly said, "Good luck proving it.  There's no video."

Attached to the federal complaint: surveillance photos and stills the FBI says another agent took of the confrontation.

According to a Chicago police report, Bychowski had been stopped in his van last September.

He told police he had sold his home and was living in the vehicle in a vacant lot, "just down the street from the FBI."
