(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- DuPage County prosecutors have charged an Addison man with leading Villa Park police on a high-speed chase.
Authorities say 35-year-old Oscar Salazar fled from Villa Park police Wednesday evening when they tried to pull him over near Addison Road and Division Street.
Salazar allegedly reached speeds of 80 miles per hour and drove through a stop sign and multiple red lights, and still managed to keep going after running over two spike strips put down by police.
A third spike strip finally stopped Salazar.
When Salazar refused to come out of his vehicle, officers used Tasers to subdue him, authorities say.
On Thursday, a judge denied Salazar pretrial release on charges of aggravated fleeing and eluding police and other offenses, prosecutors said.
His next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 29.
“The allegations that Mr. Salazar ignored multiple traffic control devices and officers’ attempts to pull him over while driving a disabled car are outrageous,” DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said. “Even more alarming are the allegations that Mr. Salazar drove the disabled vehicle at a high rate of speed through a residential neighborhood.”
