CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A Chicago woman is behind bars after police said she crashed a stolen vehicle during a chase with Indiana State Police.
Police said it happened about noon Saturday when police spotted a Jeep Grand Cherokee doing 83 miles-per-hour in a 70-mile-per-hour zone on Interstate 94 near Chesterton, about 50 miles from Chicago.
Indiana State Police pulled the vehicle over but the driver then sped off and ended up crashing into another vehicle before the driver eventually surrendered.
The driver, 24-year-old Nakia S. Smith of Chicago, was charged with several crimes. Police said a check of the vehicle revealed that it had been reported stolen in Illinois last month.
