Investigators in Mundelein say officers were called to a home on Ashbrook Drive just before 6 PM for a report of a suicidal woman. Police say the 9-1-1 caller claimed to be a relative of a family member who wanted to be killed by police.
Upon arriving, officers learned that the female was seated on the back patio of the home.
Police say the female suddenly stood up and approached the rear sliding door armed with two large knives. She attempted to enter the home while yelling and authorities say she aggressively opened the sliding door when officers shot her.
She was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead. The officer involved in the shooting was taken to the hospital for an evaluation. The Lake County Major Crime Task Force is conducting an independent investigation into the incident.
