CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Starting next month, visitors will have to pay a little more for admission to the Museum of Contemporary Art.

For Chicago residents, student and senior tickets will go from $8 to $10, and the adult price will go from $15 to $19.

Steve Lux with the Chicago Park District said the increase supports work on the museum's compensation program.

"In 2022, the MCA made a significant chance to its workforce by transitioning its part- time staff to full- time positions, and extending health care benefits as well. The increase will also provide for a paid intern program."

Gwen Perry Davis with the MCA said this does not change the MCA's philosophy of increasing access to art.

"Admission is always free for anyone under 18, and the MCA's pay as you wish policy means the museum will never turn away a visitor who elects to pay a lower fee, nor will it change the museum's special rates and free days."

The increased fee goes into effect July 1.
