(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Museum of Ice Cream will open a Chicago location next year, with operators promising an “ice cream Chicago dog,” among other oddities.
The attraction will feature 14 “magical” interactive, Chicago-oriented installations when it anchors the redeveloped Tribune Tower site along Michigan Avenue.
“We’re so excited to bring a little ice cream MAGIC! Have you ever had an ice cream Chicago dog???!,” MOIC tweeted on Instagram Wednesday.
MOIC already has locations in New York; Austin, Texas and Singapore. The venues are known for sculptural, selfie-friendly exhibits that celebrate ice cream and sundae toppings.
Visitors in Chicago can take guided tours that include breaks for ice cream samples, or they can proceed immediately to a speakeasy-style bar that serves cocktails, ice cream and food, Eater reports.

Also expected here are a mini golf course; a pink mockup of an L stop; a jelly bean-filled replica of Chicago’s famous “Bean/Cloud Gate” sculpture; and an ice cream confection in the shape of a loaded Chicago-style hot dog.
The Museum of Ice Cream announcement comes as the Magnificent Mile is being partly recast for tourist “experiences,” rather than for high-end retail.
