A Rain-soaked Riot Fest Is Over. Now It's Time to Clean Up
The music, the merchandise, the madness...the mud! Three days of the Riot Fest music festival are in the books for another year. Rain fell constantly on Sunday, after some rough weather on Saturday as well that caused disruption to the concert lineup on both days.
Now, Douglass Park at 1401 South Sacramento, is basically a giant mud puddle. We spoke to. Riot Fester Taylor Duda who returned to the site of Riot Fest on Monday morning hoping to find her phone which she lost in a "mosh pit" while watching Taking Back Sunday on Sunday night.
Duda, 19, told WBBM "they (Riot Fest) gave me an email that I could email the lost and found, give them a description and they also said I could come back today and check the lost and found and they let me back in to look for it if it's not there."
Taylor was with her roommate, Annika Lundeen, 18.
WBBM asked them if the mud made it more fun, and Duda said "in a ways (but) it also made it a little bit more difficult, with trying to lift up the crowd surfers, they were all covered in mud!"
Lundeen said, "she came back and she was drenched in mud, and she was like 'I'm gonna go take a shower now!'"
Taylor was not the only one to leave things behind. Someone posted on social media to say they found a tooth, and WBBM also saw a pair of muddy boots left behind.
Under a contract with the City of Chicago, Riot Fest has to pay to clean up Douglass Park and also has to pay for improvements in the Park.
Riot Fest has a three-year agreement with the City of Chicago to hold the music festival in Douglass Park. Next year is the final year, but there's an an option for a two-year extension after that.
