(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A choir teacher from Bloomington will sing the national anthem Tuesday before the White Sox game after winning a contest.

Destinee Feliciano auditioned for the gig last month at Guaranteed Rate Field along with six other finalists. Former American Idol season six contestant Gina Glocksen-Ruzicka was one of the judges and told Feliciano she won during a surprise video call.

“Destinee Feliciano, that name is a star in itself. So you are chosen to be the anthem singer for Sept. 10,” Glocksen-Ruzicka said on the call.

Feliciano told her getting to sing the national anthem for her team is on her bucket list, mentioning her fandom in her audition video.

“It's literally like a, it's like a bucket list item that I was just always like, I've always wanted to do it my whole life,” Feliciano said after being told she won.

“You get to! You get to! And I’m so excited for you,” Glocksen-Ruzicka said.

This will be Feliciano’s second time singing at the ballpark. The life-long Sox fan performed as part of an acapella group five years ago.

The team will present the 25-year-old middle school choir teacher from downstate with a customized Sox jersey and hat when she performs Tuesday night.

The Sox take on Cleveland. The anthem is scheduled for 6:28 p.m. and first pitch for 6:40 p.m.
