(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — West suburban rib fans will have to find another street festival; organizers of Naperville's Ribfest have permanently canceled the decades-old festival.
The once-immensely popular festival was not planned to be held in 2024, and now, the Exchange Club of Naperville has announced Ribfest is over after 35 years and thousands of slabs of ribs.
Organizers said after their lease at Knoch Park ended and COVID forced cancellations, they were not able to make enough money to be profitable at a new location and time.
They shared the news with great sadness and pointed to $22 million the Exchange Club boasts of raising over the years to stop child abuse and domestic violence.
Ribfest organizers said they are proud of their years of service and hope their impact will live on.
