(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Twin brothers at Naperville North High School are competing for a national award for their automotive work.
Josh Gunther will major in motorsports when he heads to the University of Northern Ohio next fall. The 18-year-old hopes to eventually work on a race team pit crew or as a mechanic.
“I’ve always been around cars and always been working on cars,” he said.
He’s already won the motorsports category for the Future Techs Rock competition.
His twin brother Jake won the welding category.
They were nominated by their auto teacher Greg Ditch, who has been encouraging people to vote. He said students like Josh and Jake are in high demand.
“We have different types of fabricators, restoration shops, Toyota dealers — whoever it may be — are calling us looking for students that they can train,” he said.
The grand prize winner will receive $1,000 and tools. Online voting runs through Friday evening.
