NAPERVILLE (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - British expats living in the Chicago area are watching funeral plans for Queen Elizabeth unfold. One Naperville woman in particular has been glued to the coverage.

Jacqueline Meisell said given the queen’s age, her death was not unexpected nor tragic. The London native marvels at the monarch’s work ethic, with the 96-year-old meeting with the new prime minister days before her death.

“Oh my God, she’s like this amazing, amazing woman, and it’s just so sad to see that she passed away 48 hours after that, Meisell said.

She pointed to a story about how some American tourists met the queen and didn’t realize it was her, as a demonstration of the monarch’s sense of humor.
Meiselll said she’s heard from friends back home who’ve already paid their respects.

“Every time I go back, we just all go to Windsor- Windsor Castle-, when Lady Diana died I went quite a few times and, my friends and I, we went to Kensington Palace and Buckingham Palace, laid flowers,” Meisell said.

She said she hopes King Charles can live up to his mother’s legacy.
Talking with WBBM about the queen prompted Meisell to pull out a souvenir.

“I still got my mugs here, it’s faded, the picture is faded, being in the dishwasher eight million times, but I’m going to use that now, so I’m going to use that now. So, I’m going to have my proper English cup of tea, I’m now going to drink from the queen’s mug,” Meisell said.
