(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago police and other emergency agencies on Wednesday outlined plans for safety – including a significant private security force -- during this weekend's NASCAR Street Race.

After a year of planning, city agencies say they're ready for additional crowds downtown for the race.

Julie Giese -- president of NASCAR Street Race Chicago – said the organization is working with Four Leaf Productions on additional security. That firm has 20 years of experience in planning Lollapalooza and other large events in Chicago.

NASCAR has hired 900 private security guards, officials said.

Interim Chicago Police Supt. Fred Waller didn't specify how many police officers will be working but said his department has cancelled regular days off.

Acting Executive Director of OEMC Jose Tirado says residents and visitors can help emergency responders by taking note of pole markers to give specific locations.

Waller said neighborhoods will still have plenty of police protection during the holiday weekend and race.
