(WBBM NEWSRADIO) - You can now remember this year's historic cicada emergence in bobblehead form.
Believe it or not, the song of the cicada will eventually fall silent as the cicadas die out.
Milwaukee's National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum wants to commemorate the summer of the cicada with a bobblehead reproduction of the periodic insects.
Bobblehead Hall of Fame Co-Founder and CEO Phil Sklar says there's a bit of irony in a Milwaukee museum jumping on the cicada bandwagon.
“Wisconsin does have some coverage but not in the Milwaukee area,” Sklar says. “Lake Geneva is sort of a hot spot in Wisconsin and around that area, and people have been traveling from Milwaukee to Lake Geneva just to see the cicadas.”
He believes the cicada emergence is a common experience that everyone can discuss.
“We have an election year and so many different topics that divide us, but, I guess we can all unite around cicadas and have some fun with them, regardless of whether you love them, hate them or they don’t bother you,” says Sklar.
Sklar says the cicada bobblehead may come with the cicada's signature sound.
“We do have the ability to do that,” he said. “We’ve done that with other bobbleheads…I guess if enough people ask for it, maybe it will be a surprise feature that comes along with the bobblehead.
The cicada bobbleheads cost $30 apiece and will only be available through their online store. and They will ship in November.
