(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The national tour of the relic of St. Jude was cut short in Joliet last week due to a police investigation.
The relic of St. Jude made its stop at Queen of Apostles Catholic Parish on Thursday. It was scheduled for veneration at two other Diocese of Joliet parishes, but those visits have been called off by Bishop Ronald Hicks.
Hicks’ decision came after what he and Joliet police described as an incident involving an out-of-town priest — who’s connected with the relic’s tour — and students at Queen of Apostles.
Few details about the incident were shared by the Diocese of Joliet and the Joliet Police Department. Officers, though, were called to the parish, and the priest was told to leave. The nonprofit behind the tour, Treasures of the Church. was also notified.
In its statement, the Diocese of Joliet said all involved in the incident were safe.
“We are deeply saddened by this incident and all affected by the cancellation of the relic tour,” the statement reads. “Thank you for your patience as we work through all of the proper protocols, decisions and actions.”
