CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A very large number of migrating birds died late Wednesday and early Thursday after colliding into McCormick Place.
Nearly 1,000 birds flew into windows at the events venue near the lake, according to Chicago Bird Collision Monitors.
The event appears to be a combination of high intensity migration, adverse weather conditions for flying, plus lights illuminating large glass, according to the organization's report.
Chicago Bird Collision Monitors urges businesses to turn off non-essential lights during the migration season which includes October.
