(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The LaGrange Theatre may have opened in 1925, but it has that “new theater smell” now.

The LaGrange, which reopens after long hiatus, will also be showing first-run movies, starting with the new Top Gun Maverick movie.

The LaGrange Village Board has approved a new 50-cents-a-ticket amusement tax to cover a $1 million loan the village provided for renovations.

“This is great. I think it’s a true win, win, win. The village is definitely benefiting from having Classic Cinemas come in and to professionally run the movie theater,” LaGrange Village President Mark Kuchler said.

Besides heated reclining seats, the cinema has bigger screens as well as free popcorn and pop refills.
