SKOKIE, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Neighbors of a proposed car vending machine in Skokie along the Edens Expressway hope to persuade village trustees to reject the plan that’s up for a vote Monday night.

Asher Bronfeld lives next door to the proposed Carvana Tower site in Skokie’s largest apartment building complex, Optima. He’s unhappy about truck deliveries.

"They've got nine cars piled into a truck. These things are 55,000 to 60,000 pounds fully loaded," he said.

He plans to ask trustees to vote no a zoning amendment to allow the car dealership and the design of the 14-story tower, saying it’s not right for the area right next to Harms Woods.

"The Oakbrook facility in not near any residential. It is also not near a forest preserve. It's just that the placement of this specific Carvana vending machine tower is totally inappropriate in our opinion," Bronfeld said.

Bronfeld and his roughly 2,000 neighbors also have doubts about Carvana’s projections that Skokie would collect $200,000 in the first year.

"We believe that many of their numbers are inflated obviously for the purpose of impressing the board to approve their project," Bronfeld said.

Since the village only collects sales taxes on used cars picked up at the site, he questions why the company assumes so many people wouldn’t have them sent directly to their homes.

"If you ordered a pizza on the same day you got your car delivered, the pizza would be a larger delivery charge than the car itself" Bronfeld said.

Meanwhile, naturalists want Carvana to do more to protect migrating birds from the glass tower.

Carvana has already made several modifications since bringing the proposal to the plan commission in October.
