(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Readers in Lincoln Park have a new option for buying books.
“Trying to get a couple of books signed. And I'm really excited to come back here after it was closed at the original location. And I just want to get some new books and see a new environment,” shopper Candice Cole said.
Cole was one of those who were lined up outside the new Barnes and Noble on the 600 block of West Diversey Parkway, eager for the doors to open on Wednesday.
“All of the bookstores near me were like a mile away, but this is like way closer.”
Book lovers were eager to browse the shelves, and poured inside once the ribbon was cut.
Best-selling author Jeneva Rose was signing copies of their book "Home is Where the Bodies Are."
“I navigate toward a paperback. I love the smell of a book. I love holding a book. It makes me feel like I'm actually reading, versus on a Kindle,” Rose said.
Five Chicago-area Barnes & Noble stores are set to open in 2024, including one in the Wicker Park neighborhood in the old Walgreens flagship store at 1601 N. Milwaukee Ave.
In addition, the chain will open three more stores in the area, one each in Northbrook, Oswego, and Schererville, Indiana.
